181st Intelligence Wing conducts disaster response exercise

MUSCATATUCK URBAN TRAINING CENTER, Ind. - -- Airmen with the 181st Intelligence Wing arrived at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center to perform a disaster response exercise June 14, 2015.

The simulated hurricane disaster exercise is a joint operation providing Airmen from the 181 IW the opportunity to conduct disaster training with state and local officials, to include the Vigo County Emergency Management Agency.

"Our Airmen play an important role in disaster response operations," said Col. Shane Halbrook, mission support group commander.

"Working closely with state and local officials during these exercises ensures we provide operationally ready Airmen to support our communities in the event of a natural disaster," said Halbrook

Disaster response is a strategic core capability of the 181st IW. In the event of a natural disaster, the 181st IW is capable of responding rapidly in support of civilian authorities to save lives, conduct search and rescue, protect property, maintain or re-establish communications, etc.
