    On a hot summer day in August, as I stared across from the Terre Haute Regional Airport ramp in the distance, I saw what appeared to be a mirage. Was there actually F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft on the ramp at Hulman Field? Hulman Field is the home of the 181st Intelligence Wing; the 181st IW used to be the 181st Fighter Wing but was re-missioned on March 3, 2008. The last F-16 training mission was on September 8, 2007. So, you could imagine my excitement to see aircraft on our ramp once again.

    MUSCATATUCK URBAN TRAINING CENTER, Ind. (Aug. 16, 2021) -- The scene at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center had all the hallmarks of a search and extraction training exercise. Heat from the midday sun beat down on the concrete and training structures. Humidity from a typical Indiana summer day permeated the air and clung to one’s skin and clothing. The noise from whirring generators and power tools seemed to attack one’s hearing from all directions. Yet amidst that scene stood a calm and collected presence – a team of Airmen from the 181st Chaplain’s Office.

  • 181st IW holds immersion course for new NCOs

    The immersion course was developed with new staff sergeants as the target audience. The course is designed to create a bridge from the rank of senior airman to the rank of staff sergeant with the mission of the 181st IW in mind.
